As springtime hit the Pacific Northwest, my husband, Jeremy, and I decided we needed to embrace our wanderlust and embark on a great adventure through Germany and the Czech Republic. For the last two weeks, we have trekked for miles over several beautiful cities and I am excited to share our adventure with you!
We flew into Frankfurt and immediately hopped a train to Hannover to catch a football match between Hannover 96 and Borussia Mönchengladbach. The next day, we were off to Berlin for four days. What an amazing city! Out of all the cities we visited, to me, Berlin was the most special.
We toured museums (the Neues Museum is a must see), visited historic areas of the city and found some memorable restaurants and beer halls along the way.
One of my favorite spots for breakfast was a small cafe called Chipp’s. The decor was modern, but comfortable, and the service was excellent. We chose to try the Green Horn – whole wheat toast piled high with fresh avocado and coriander, served with spring greens in a light Dijon vinaigrette.
One unique pub was the Berliner Republik, a “broker’s beer market,” where prices of drinks are based on supply and demand and can change in a matter of minutes. Listen out for the bell signaling a market “crash,” and therefore, rock bottom prices. We loved the Königsberger Klopse, a dish with bread dumplings in a creamy caper sauce, served with puréed sweet potatoes and beetroot salad.
